but people tend to forget how he always pour his whole heart in a game

after a week of doing peads, i came to one realization..
i am no joker..

why so serious!!!!!!

the best thing about peads so far is how u gain trust from parents and the child alike.. how they appreciate the long hours put in.. how they hug you and said "u r the bestest doctor... i wanna be just like you".. how u gain confidence from just their smile.. on how they inspire you to do better next time...

the not so nice about peads are the fact that they are really really sick, they need you to know stuffs that can help them, they need u to be on ur toes always as they doesnt go hand in hand with the time-space continuum.. one minute they say weeeeeeee, the next second auwieeeeeeeeee....

my heart is with peads but my common sense tell me to stay away...

emo-ness, but to me physicians start treating their patients with a smile on their face....

beginning monday, i will heed all my inefficiencies and awkwardness toward pediatrics
the one specialty peeps keep on telling me, are made for me
maybe it's my social inaptitude, my immature sense of seriousness or maybe just because i'm a retard
but for sure i think it's not MADE for me..

that is why i'm kinda freaked out by the thought of handling sick kids
as in 'peeing-in-my-pants-freaking-out'

i love kids but i dun like the notion of being around sick kids and the parents
and yes, the material might be too overwhelming -- to me..

but hopefully, time will tell.. and god will lead me to the path that is destined for me
insya-Allah

on a lighter note, i had one of the most chilaxing weekend for quite some time.
just lazying around and cleaning the place up a bit.. gave me a sense of direction and belonging-ness
might sound a bit off the scale but doing chores calms me down for some reason.. my source of endorphins
before u think i'm a neat freak or something, i would like to stress here that never have i been a tidy person.. missing stuffs and hopping around piles of laundry is a norm to me.. a work of art in picasso-esque;p

and the best things about cleaning up is, u'll find treasure lost since ancient time.. like my old notes saying how i urgently need to lose weight or study more.. kinda like a self-reflection thing.. before-and-after.. and i'm proud to say i'm satisfied with the changes so far.. not quite there yet.. but getting there..

i give you, Dr. siaw chye hing a.k.a princess Aurora. the last sighting of siaw as a fellow goofball.. and with Dr. LEE

gimme a few weeks before i can come up with a hero persona for dr. Siaw.
i promise, it's going to be one of my greatest masterpiece..

either that or the lame-est effort to further emphasized the need for me to buck up and follow the trend..

after almost 2 weeks on the road here are the casualties:

1. gained 3kgs.. time to iron out the fat!!! roar!!!
2. lost my olympus charger
3. money~~~
4. bruises and a few rashes on the upper limbs (courtesy of jem's nail, ben's carpet burn, and some mild reaction to blackpool's duvet hahahah)
5. 1 less towel (dundee;p - present for siaw to remember me by lol)
6. loads of work piling up...

but all in all.. it's all worth it..

meeting old fren is like spring cleaning.. tiring yes, but u'll definately stumbles across few surprises that bear memories which may warm ur heart out..

finally managed to pull my socks up to study after a few days of study hiatus..
it went so well that i didnt realized i spent the whole night doing so..
6am. monday is what it said.. the same time i realized i have my peads neuro that same morning..
juggling between cursing and trying to sleep i managed to dozed off (surprisingly) listening to cheryl cole's fight for this love.. before i went under.. i was so sure that i would miss my final day of peads neuro with dr. mah.. but like the old saying.. a man gotta do what a man gotta.. and that is sleep..

woke up later at 7 and i was like cursing under my breath..
first thing i did was checking the weather.. and it said -35 degrees celcius..
i was so sure this is going to be another one of those crappy mondays..

then things started to roll into the best monday ever.. like EVER..

i realised that it was 7am not pm.. but i felt so refreshed? maybe by substituting the crappy-ness out of my brain with pure knowledge, i can actually function beyond super human power!! i should do more THINKING from now on!!! lol

with my new super powers i danced to the bus stop.. all bundle up.. it is still -35 mind you..
within seconds, the bus came.. and when i was supposed to change bus to the children's hospital, the other bus was also ready to leave.. perfect timing!!! gosh.. my lucky day indeed

by 9.. i was already coat-tailing dr. mah to her clinics.. and then the glory of perfect monday keep rolling down the isle..
another residence was also tagging her, a geneticist.. and we got ot see yet another rare peads case.. a case of bilateral polymicrogyria!! even the geneticist said it's rare.. lovely parents.. lovely kid.. full of love.. full of joy..
my 'rare condition collections' is growing by the minutes.. then as i was about to leave the hospital for physical exam session, we met yet another family.. lovely family with a beautiful toddler.. she is sooo cute that i decided to get myself, one of those right there and then.. by those i meant lil' aliens that bears my genetic framework and would could me dad!!! lol.. and i don't DO wishful thinking.. another rare occasion i might say.. lol.. these.. boys and girls are the side effects of studying wayyy too much on lil' aliens.. i just couldn't stop smiling from then onwards.. sighhhhhh (this one is a good sigh lol)..

got a wonderful feedback from dr. mah too.. yay!!!!

so.. with springs in my steps i walked yet again into the cold weather but it's just not any cold weather.. it's now -16!!!! with sun shining bright and mighty.. felt like stripping down to my boxers and skipping in circle.. and that just stretched my 'smile' receptors even more.. i was literally beaming with joy!!! it's just one of those wonderful-disney-fairy-tale-esque feeling..

and just as i reached the bus stop.. the shining windshield of the bus greet me with the masculine rattle of the engine.. perfect timing.. perfect monday..

and physical exam was just perfect.. the doctor brought perfectly baked cookies and the session just breeze by.. and i still can't stop smiling.. everyone in the room was like asking me am i high on something.. perfect.. just perfect...

review sessions perfect.. dinnner perfect.. perfect day.. perfect!!! owh did i mentioned the sun? OMG it's the most perfect sun today..

just a perfect monday... oh i love mondays now!!!!!!

now, back to studying.. fingers crossed for a perfect tuesday?

conclusion: either i should study more.. or i should start the habit of cursing before sleeping and as i wake up.. lol

#114 - a GREAT saturday

one perfect day
i loved it when that happen

started off with a roti canai by abang zack
with with beef curry
while watching united
painfully dismantle blackburn
2-0 with a GREAT goal from berba
cause of concerns, how united seems to lost the creative edge over teams
sigh
but a GREAT win indeed

walked to main campus in shorts
thank god for chinook
played squash with aqsa, bella and janet
2 full hours.. yeah

got back took a GREAT reviving nap
1 hour REM bliss

then being mus-so-keen
decided to pay a visit to RGH
unit 62 -Obstetrics

suit up, off to an hour bus ride
had a GREAT conversation with the driver
from scotland
awesome guy with awesome stories
yeah, he had on of those not -s0-many-people-day
all out trick-or-treating and partying the night off

went i reached RGH, was greated by a GREAT doctor in DR.A
with great staffs
i felt like i was in a team or something
1 specialist, 1 resident, 1 clinical clerk, 1 noob
hahaahha
tag the resident who was sooo nice
and greeted by all leng lui nurses.. life never been this GREAT
lol

it's a pretty slow day that saturday
driven by the fact that mothers would hold one day back to take their children out for halloween
or teens, preferring to poison their fetus with booze
lol

but then, one hour in (9pm) things got a bit interesting
triage after triage
cervical dilatations after spottings
i've seen everything from obs point of view

then in came a complicated consult
a new expecting mother
twins - (now only i know that twins are a completely different ball game in term of delivery and all)
the mother also have a horse shoe kidney
how rare is that.. i'm like the magnet to rarity..lol
she was very much in pain, asking for epidural
but not before 1 resident, 1 nurde and one specialist perform vaginal examinations
just to be sure that she is not in labour
for what i can tell, it's very very very hard to measure the cervix
both, from the patient's perspective and the attending
too bad i can't witness the delivery process
cervix still closed
i feel every her every contraction man.. the pain!!!! i cringe every single time man..
she even swore at her mum.. lol funny leh...
one word of advice: dun mess with pregnant moms, especially when they are in labour!!!!

btw if u wan to have a painless delivery, one thing u can do is have a pyelonephritis
lool
the baby will just slide out
preterm and risk of fetal infection but yeah.. win some lose some
hahhaah
i got this from a patient who really wanted to have a full term baby
all the best to her
from then onwards, it's all about checking new mothers and their baby
soooooo niceeeeeeeeeeee
GREAT emotion from just watching them.. very warm..

as the clock strike 12am
was called in to 'assist' in a c-sec
assist = hold some stuffs, shift the patient and stay out of the way!!!
felt like a total noob, but it's ok
the c-sec was soooo fast (12mins)
and we had a very fiesty baby girl
sooooo nice the whole process
maybe not as dramatic as a vaginal delivery but still....

then the punch line
the Dr. A asked the parent:
"so, do you wan a halloween baby or a memorial day baby?"
it was 12am and it happens to be day light saving day..
1st nov 12am, clocks turn back to 31st oct 11am
kinda interesting how they joked about it..

a new life brought to this world
with love aloft

after 4 hours + 1 extra hours to make it really 12am
decided to call the day off
a few chitty-chatters with the doctors and staffs
i'm off unit 62
4 hours of GREAT learning FUN FUN FUN

and another GREAT thing happenned after that
there was not supposed to be any buses at that time
but somebody decided to pour gasoline on the bus, so the driver have to change bus
end result - i dun have to take a cab home!!!
yay!!!
with another GREAT scottish driver.. hahaha

we went out for dim sum
with janet as the honorary guest
the birthday dim sum girl

2 revelation that day:
1. shouldnot brag about united in fornt of abang joe anymore;p
2. one my favorite dim sum dish (one being the egg tart, the other one being the curry octopus), the carrot cake, was deem not halal!!!

been a long time i had such pleasure
so while waiting for the bus home
sat on the cold grass
can't believe it's fall and it's already freezing
but the best part of the afternoon was the sun
gosh.. it was so majestic today

when i got back to my senses

with my ass frozen stiff but my mood to the 7th heaven

i feel like superman

so off we went to the patient's place

felt like a celebrity.. lol

anyway, medical condition aside
let me tell u the story of this remarkable person i met
MISS H, 93 years of age (yeah, she's still available!!)
one thing i really like about her is how she kept on going
loving the world aroud her
the people and every single thing in life

started off teaching up to grade 8 student in a rural setting
was forced to quit because of her condition
oh how she love teaching the lil' ones

down but not out, she pursued another career
a telegraph operator in lake louise
i nice place to settle in, working in view the full view of the mountains

by that time she's in her late 70's
she started the unthinkable
'let's scale the mountains she said one day'
so of she went once again..
capturing mountains after mountains
mount temple, sentinel pass just name it..

she can even climb the calgary tower 5 times in a day!!

"i loved my life, and life has treated me well"
"all i need is my family and my will to try something new"
"cause to me, everday is a new adventure"
"good or bad, you just have to learn to live with it"

i'm 24 and i can't even will myself out of bed on some day
curse long hours in a slow day of clinic

how i wish i have her love for life
the energy to keep going on and on
to me, she's like the energizer bunny

i hope this post will remind me how noob i am
need to improve, need to learn more

decided to go on a telephone rampage

after calling my dad

but can only get thru 13

a hectic week indeed
weekend - rejuvenation..

not one to dwell on how tired i am..
but, i really am DEAD tired this week

all because i tried to be somekind of a superhuman
like naruto with his endless chakra..

after a week in bed with the flu bug (a nasty affair i might say)
i decided to have the most productive week ever

i got an urgent message
"can you please help put/design henna for my wedding today?"
"130pm ok?"

last tuesday
22nd september 2009
i was appointed as the 'mak andam' for a wedding
a malaysian wedding in calgary!!!

the couple requested to be anonymous for now and i shall respect that

a pretty simple yet elaborate event

but the best part is i was given 3 hours notice to do so
to design, to put it on
sweat blood~

it's a good thing i dun have any classes after 1230pm
that'll give me an hour time to make something happen
NOT!!!

didnt design any, reached late
so what can we do? FREE STYLE!!!! yeahhhh

with a tube in my hand, gung ho!!

was restricted from going to the hospital (kena scolded somemore)
felt being left out

all this after almost a year long spell of sickness free period
another milestone for someone who have a weak immune system

then came the sprain thumb.. takes forever to heal

for no reason whatsoever
"mid-life" crisis?

been rendering myself to total exhaustion for the past few weeks
all for the sake of proving to my housemates,
fasting is not an excuse to laze around and sleep

pick up soccer every tuesday + 3 random pick up games
one interspecies cup soccer match: kakapo vs blobfish
which we ceremoniously won
(welcoming soccer game against the new first years)
cycling to-and-fro, route hospital at least 3 times/week
one squash game with new tapau girl janet

end result: a lean body mass index (i think;p) and a zombified lengzhai

apart from that, been cooking loads of stuffs lately, for break fast
you guys wont believe it if i told u what we cooked
even organized two iftars (buka puasa), for roughly 30 peeps
trying out new recipes sure are fun
even manage to learnhow to make a simple dessert.. yay!!!

owh yeah, of late, it's been a scheduling nightmare!!

gosh can't believe i've survived 3 weeks of insanity
sigh..
still surviving tho..

the highlight of the week for me

one week back to calgary
low morale, missing home, jet-lagged (tho i still think i'm jet-lag-proof;p)
missing 2 days of school
beleaguered
feeling stoopid as usual,

those words woke me up like an alarm clock, buzzing with excitement in the wee hours of a perfect morning

it was on a lazy wednesday morning,
i was asked by my preceptor to perform the MOCA (MONTREAL COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT) and the MINI MENTAL STATUS examination on a patient
for a minimum of an hour
(~was not even taught properly to do so too!!! - yeah i'm a slacker)
and we, a core team of 5, were divided in pairs..
and i was singled out to do it on my own because i'm too lengzhai to be paired that day.. :l (lol)
so i went in to the examination room, painstalkingly cursing my lack of knowledge on things at hand

there sat a timid middle aged women
well into her 40's
looking very calm and yet tired in a way

being an honest stud (:p) i started the interview with:
"to begin with, i have no clue whatsoever on what we are supposed to be doing today, so bear with me yeah?"
to which she replied:
"it's ok, neither do i. let's just pretend that u know ur stuffs and we'll see how it goes yeah? i'm just happy that i can help students like u to help me!"
a burst of laughter and off we went into the wilderness (lol)

we went thru the whole thing as smooth as a well ironed up shirt
was actually surprised at my own achievement
plus a negative results - which is good news to her as well
all in all, a yay day for us

we finished quite early (wayyyyy too early..)
i get bored quite easily, can't help it, i'm a restless bugger
so, being a social retard a started asking questions about any random things
kinda like a random unorganized history
then came the key moment, i asked her to show me her perscription
she stood up, walked to her purse with a slight unstable gait
but she tried her best to mask it

questions after questions
then she told me that she's not supposed to tell me that she have Multiple Sclerosis
~that darn preceptor of mine trying to outwit me hey!!! haha
then we talked quite a bit about the disease and how she's handling it
the natural history etc etc

then guilt ran down my spine
i didn't know that hte MOCA and mini mental assessment was quite taxing on her
and to even walk a bit would squished the living daylight outta her
but still she tried to hide it.. putting on the 'i'm normal make-up'
apologizing repeatedly, (altho that's a norm for me coz everytime i take histroy i used the "i'm sorry but..." charm) we continue on chatting bout how the disease is affecting her life
trained by the calgary-cambridge guideline, i asked the "what are your main concerns" to end the session

to which she replied after a long pause and a sad look on her face:

"well to tell you the truth, i have millions concern bout what lays ahead, coz i have a cousin who, unfortunately, got the severe spectrum of this disease.. every single day is a worry to me, a struggle. but i tried not to think about it. i tried to move on with what i have.. make the best out of everything.. my family, they've been so great to me all these years and i dun wan to hold them down. i wan them to FEEL life, to have their own LIFE..
it was during one of my rehab sesssion that i realized how selfish i was.. she asked me about THE CHAIR, then i retaliated, "i dun need a chair.. i can walk fine on my own!!!! then she asked me "when was ur last visit to the zoo with ur family?" i said, "a couple of years ago..." with clairvoyance before i stopped dead there.. "a few years ago...", "a few years ago!!!!".... i was holding my family back.. i'm the one with the disease but they are the one suffering from it!! then, i got the chair.. with THE CHAIR, i was able... we were able to be like a family again.. to travel.. to go to museums, my husband always wanted to go the europe, and with THE CHAIR he was able to do it with me.. and life have been good to me ever since..
my mother, she was diagnosed with diabetes, and being old, she never did fall into the habit of taking her meds, she just lived on, happily with her family around her.. until the disease almost took her legs.. but she;s in a better place now, before the disease took over her.. she's definately in a better place right now.. definately..
that's what i learnt from my mother...

I HAVE MS, BUT MS DOESN'T HAVE ME!!!

with a knock on the door from my preceptor, signalling the end of the session,
i thanked her with teary eyes, (i said teary eyes, i didn't cried!!! that's a statement)
all my respect to her strength and courage
taking human will to another level
for the benefit of others

to end it all she said:
"no, no, no, i should be thanking you instead, you are helping the likes of me with all kinds of conditions.. learn from me and other too.. study well.. may the world be a better place then with people like you. thank you.. i really enjoyed talking to you.. it was nice of u to remind me why i must fight on.. you should too, no matter how hard life eating u, just hold on and things will be ok... thank you.."

as she slowly dragged herself out of the room
all i can do is watch (fool!!! go and help her!!!)
and
savour a human spirit, kindered with self sacrifice and strength
in a fragile body
but a much more wonderful core than mine

sigh~

living with MS for 20years now with no sign of remission

multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory demyelinating disorder of the central nerve system defined by episodes disseminated in time and neuroanatomical lesion

p/s: when i was explaining to the patients about the test and how it's going to progress, due to some irritating question within the assessment, i tried to apologized beforehand by saying:
"some of these questions and tasks might be a lil' bit odd and repetitive, so please do not be... (a pause)... pissed ok?"
luckily i had built 'some' rapport.. otherwise i would be on the next flight back to malaysia if she were to report my 'language apt-ness' lol

after a pretty sedentary week
plus a boring saturday
i decided to go an catch the latest happening in calgary
Calgary comic and entertainment expo'09
entering it's 4th year, it is supposed to be the biggest event of it's kind in the western canada?

hurm.. to me it's a so-so thing since i'm not really a huge fan
i'm more of a toys and manga person
but it's pretty fun to see peeps dressed up accordingly

what is ur profession?!!!! rawr

wanted to catch a photo ops with ANDO (james kyson lee) from heroes, and SAMWISE GAMGEE LOTR (sean austin)
but the line was horrible..

talking about mission, my sole mission of the day was to get a hold on SPAWN!!
i'm a huge collector of todd mcfarlene's spawn action figures
but another mission impossible as there's only a few (of which i've already owned)

came across this wierd looking mammal a few months back
an okapi by name
and misplaced in all sort of way

what intrigued me bout this near extint mammal is the fact that
it has a zebra's behind
body looks like a horse
face like a hyena
and it is related to the giraffe?
lol in every single way

a very confused animal i would say
- i bet mr jeremy nuniz know how it feels like lol

and the 'neat-est' thing bout okapi's:
it can lick it's eyes and ears with a foot-long blue-black tongue
the only mammal to be able to do so

the goals here is to tricked them 1st (but the apron didnt help the cause tho!!)

question 3: what then after u managed to trick them? how do you cook them?

and there goes the creature back to it's natural environment!!

then, i found the best treatment.. just a week ago

what more can be more relaxing than a stomach full of octopus, shrimp and shark's fin soup
not to mention the yummy-licious egg tarts
and it's a good idea to prepare the exam in a 'chillin' mood

went out with janet and vi-en yesterday
dim sum in the north west

last wednesday i had HARVEY session
kinda like a simulation
heart failure case
felt like a pro
coz we got to make all the call
just like all the emergency doctors

they gave us a case

it's what happened after that..

rite after the euphoria of the HARVEY session
nature calls
rushed to the 'restroom'
into an empty cubicle
was happily dehydrating myself while reading some writings on the wall
just as i was about to flush it down
i look into a pool of green liquid in the toilet bowl
*shit (internal monologue)
it's freaking green
i got infection meh? pus in in the urine?
kidney failure with veg-cast!!!
or maybe i ate a radioactive lunch!!!
or am i going to be the next cast for HEROES
the one that can shoot out green radiactived pee to kill villains!!
lol

so anyway, panic attack wei
all the thought of not living past my glorious 20's
the thought of depriving the world of another lengzhai!!!

then when i got out of the cubicle
with a heavy heart...

since my first attempt to make a snowman failed miserably
since it's too dry and the snow a bit too brittle
and the fact that i'm a noob malaysian
i decided why should i follow the ang-mo's way..

let lengzhaiMUS lead u into the world of ss!!!

101: HOW TO MAKE A SNOWMAN (the malaysian way)!!!
codenamed: pei the maid

1. u pile up heaps abd heaps of snow.. then u shaped it into a skirt-like shape
2. pour water on the pile and let it hardened for the night
3. next day, stick 2 long branch into the 'skirt' to be the base of the trunk
4. with the help of snow-soaked-in-water, pile another heap of snow onto the stick, as usual, leave it for the night air to freeze it up

5. stick another set of branches to make the base for the head, then let it freeze

6. while waiting for it to freeze, u can start making the head.. a ball of snow rolled up from the previously tak jadi snowman!!! take note, a basin of water is very helpful in shaping the head as well as ensuring a nice frozen set of fingers.. (parental guidance is required as children might mistaken their fingers with ice cream!!)
~mental note... making a snowman WHILE it's snowing is good: if u ran out of water and lazy to go in, just use ur runny snort hahaha

7. once it's all done.. just put the head on top,, reshape the mannequin to ur liking.. i used the patty turner to shape it (lol).. use water soaked snow to improved the strenght of the joints..
8. get a few more branches for the hands and the rest is up to u...

and the result:

owh, the boobs are customized for pei's purposes (pei, the size ok or not? lol)

kinda like our calgary name
a proper way to welcome us into the medical education system in calgary

started at 5pm
ended at 2am
left at 11pm coz to escape the 'mabuk-ing' party
(calgarian sure likes to party and get really drunk!!!)

so this is how it works...
when his/her turns up
they have to stand infront of the hall
people will start suggesting names
related or not to the person in question
with/without a story behind each names

some from what they turn into when they're wayyyy drunk (always on top!!!)
some from their unique names (dominatrix!!)
some from their personality (beastmaster)
some from what they said (double team)
some from their looks (jose calderon)
some from their background (i got pass the border)
some from their experience ($50 rubber)
and some... just because!!!

then the whole class will bid for the names starting from $5
and the winning names will be the name they have to live with for the next 3 years
or maybe longer!!!

last thursday marks the end of our volleyball journey in UoC intramurals
lost only once in the group stage
topped the group with flair and grace

play-offs...
wierd-messed-up play-offs match-up
played up till the semifinals

and then it all crumbles
we lost due to our own mistakes
i made loads
and it adds up to the most dissappointing showing front the "KAKAPO"
sad scoreline but well beaten

sigh......
but there's always a silver lining somewhere

i got to improve my settings
my first balls still need some improvement
i can spike with my right hand now!! that's a wow from a leftie i would say!!

attended a trauma lecture by the trauma department
patient presentation
and the magic of the medical world

the doctor manage to salvage what's left of her ankle by forming a new calcaneus by using a part of the pelvic bone... awesomeness!!!
recovery still going on.. been 2 years

when asked about what's the worst part of her experience she said..

it's not the pain
it's not the thought that i might not be able to walk after this
but not knowing what happened to my dad
nobody wanted to tell me everything
even my brother
they waited until the social worker came!!!
it's just... so painful

which made me think
what's our ROLE as a doctor
just to fix and then run?
why wait for the social worker?
why can we break the bad news?

and then it hit me...
am i STRONG enough to do so?
what if i said the WRONG things?
and why would i even CARE?
should i CARE?

up to this point i feel very useless
sure i can diagose with hours of mugging in the library
sure i can manage the patients with proper training
but can i HEAL them?

treat the patient as a WHOLE
as a PERSON

that's what been taught
but isn't that asking to much from a person
emotional stability
mental efficiency
spiritual pillar

am thinking too much again
sweat sweat sweat
just a gentle reminder for me i guess
that to be a good doctor, 'I' need to be HUMAN

anyway.. the main goal of the talk was to educate people that there's no such thing as accident
the word accident itself clouds our jugdement on what really happened
cause and effect they say
check and balance
i did that so i got this

calgary is not a bad place to live in
the traffic was good
road-manner was excellent
and
the people here are extremely nice

but there are still things they (canadian) can learn from us malaysian
for example...
try putting more spices into their food
they should learnt to appreciate what little sun they have left
they should have learnt that malaysia is not just the country between singapore and thailand!
(singapore i understand, but thailand??? tiger show?? lol)

but the most important thing
they should learnt how to be SIMPLE
just like malaysian

instead of putting:
"open everyday from 8am to 11pm"

was at a fren's fren place for dinner last night.. by the poolside..
we had pizzas, chips, nuts and a lot of drinks..
i had kickapoo.. 7up, sprite, coke and few sparkling juices
while the rest had pretty much the same thing
plus
few bottles of liquor (i still dun understand why peeps like to get drunk.. )
so, was having fun talking by the poolside,
playing cards until a sparkling juice came into play..

about an abused child, his sufferings
under an abusive mother (the mother)
a father who refused to acknowledge the abuse

thinking that a family 'secret' should remains as one

but with the help of teachers and the social workers
as well as a juvenile officer
and a list of foster parents

dave prevails in his quest to survive
and to be a better person

it was quite a disturbing book to begin with
on how the mother treat her child
reduced to eat poo
and out of the trash cans
enslaved to the household
torture physically and mentally
up to a point she put him in a 'gas chamber'
force him to drink detergent
and stabbed him in the stomach

upon his rescue,
he then has to face the stigma imposed on foster child
difficulties in foster care

then, the reality of life
jobs, marriage, having a family

all this add up to him becoming
the 10 most outstanding youth of the world of the year

really a good read to those who want something different

being lengzhaimus... here is another belated post

it's btn 2008 - pusat latihan panorama, langkawi

it's simply a whole week of holiday

nil on studies

nil on labwork

nil on impending calgary date

no worries

the whole experience was fun

meeting interesting peeps

connecting to peeps 5 years younger than yours trully

the lectures were a bore

(we actually compile question for our juniors during the lecture)

the ldk's was fun and heated at times

my ldk group was very dynamic;p

we performed one of the best 'vocal performance' in a 'pentomine' act (lol)

kembara was 'a walk in the park' (literally!!!)

the physical tests was a breeze

food was fairly ok

and

lotsa porn-starring (according to ben)

and now the actuall facts! hahaha

since the first day.. we (imu students) were marked out of the crowd for few obvious reasons:

1. we are very much OLDER

2. tis' the 2nd outing for us

3. we are and 'established' med students (the rest doing their a-levels etc etc)

4. we are way 'COOLER'.. period!!!

and the not so obvious reasons:

1. 4 'majestically' flew in (no punt intended)

2. bela and budin was the 'jambu' of the trainers

(bela wa elected timbalan penghulu and hafiz the 1st chairperson)

3. we were 'fashionably' late for most of the time

4. our karaoke sessions

yes, one truly entertaining bits of this camp is our morn, mid noon and late-nite american idol's moments singing our hearts out to 'rock kapak' tunes..

tho it's off-tuned

pitchy

bad choice of songs

(we even sang comercials songs - NINI, NANO NANO, etc, etc)

no snychronization

record braking feat (literally;p)

it was fun all the way coz we got 'connected'

apart from that we got to flirt with the caterer

so that we can sneak off at nite for late late supper

hahaha

6(++) meals per day really taking it's toll on my poor tummy

we also sneaked off to watch a euro game at 3 with the guard lol

'sneaky' bunch we are lolz

ldk was cool

not a bad bunch to be in

we talk nonsense in almost every sessions

(ok ok only i talked nonsense)

got to sing menara bangsa

hahaha

i still can laugh at how noob we were during the performance

will miss the bunch...

really a week worth putting in my treasure chest!!

owh yeah... on the way to langkawi, we made several detours in kuala perlis

we made friends with the locals there

(being a small town, they we really a good host, caring neighbours i would say..)

they helped us alot and made life easier for us

really nice

then we rent a car..

then ben drove us to bukit ayer

waterfall!!! i like!!!

mini road trip!!! i like!!!

local delicacies for lunch

and

on the way back from langkawi

we shopped

then a panoramic sunset dinner by the sea
